Foggy Bottom Farm is a family owned Hereford operation, managed by Ray and Cyndy Howes, along with their daughters Karey Howes, Katlyn Bennett and their son-in-law Ryan Bennett.

Ray and Cyndy Howes have been raising and exhibiting Hereford cattle since 1983. Ray and Cyndy have been actively involved and supportive of the Maryland Cattleman’s Association, Maryland Hereford Association, and their local 4-H program. Honors received from their support include the Maryland Cattleman’s Association “Top Hand Award,” the Maryland Hereford Association’s Col. E. Brook Lee Award, and induction into the Maryland Hereford Association Hall of Fame.

Both Katlyn and Karey showed competitively as NJHA members and attended 13 straight Junior National Hereford Expo’s from 1999-2012. Katlyn served on the National Junior Hereford Association Board of Directors from 2005-2008. Karey was competitive at the highest levels of the Hereford breed including taking home banners from the North American International Livestock Expo, American Royal, Keystone International Livestock Expo, and the Junior National Hereford Expo.

Ryan grew up raising and showing club calves and Shorthorn cattle in Maryland. He was on the livestock judging team at Butler Community College and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Agriculture.

Ray is retired from the car dealership business and Cyndy is the manager of a local orchard. Katlyn is a middle school teacher in Arlington, Virginia outside of Washington, D.C. where Ryan represents farmers on Capitol Hill. Karey is an elementary school teacher and lives nearby to the farm where she remains active mentoring junior showmen in the area.

Our Managing Partner
Billy Widerman has been a part of FBF’s most early success and in 2015 came back to the farm full-time. Previously Herdsman for Lowderman Cattle Company, Billy is no stranger from the show circuit having been behind multiple national champions in the Hereford and Angus breeds. We are happy to have Billy back in his native Carroll County, Maryland as Managing Partner of Foggy Bottom Farm.
